Robert P. Blakely
(1917-1994)

On March 30, 1994 we lost a long-time friend and a booster of many good works, including the Florida Aquatic Plant Management Society. Bob was appointed to the Board of Governors of the Central and South Florida Flood Control District by then Governor Kirk, and served a year as its chairman. He served as a supervisor of Old Plantation Water Control District for forty years, most of the time as chairman. He was a Board member of the Hyacinth Control Society; he was a charter member of our Society, and founding member of the Florida Association of Special Districts. The list of benevolent and community groups who used Bob’s skills could be multiplied, but most of us will miss him because he was an honorable man who saw the good in his fellow citizens.
